Last Saturday, I decided to take the plunge and start a large tattoo piece. After much research and consideration, I chose Bethesda Tattoo, and I’m excited to share my experience with you. From the initial consultation to the hours spent under the needle, my journey at Bethesda Tattoo was noteworthy, and here’s why if you’re thinking about getting inked, Bethesda Tattoo should be on your radar.
My artist for the day was Kevin at Bethesda Tattoo. Right from the start, I felt comfortable and in capable hands. The studio itself had a great vibe – professional yet welcoming, which is exactly what you want when you’re about to embark on a significant piece of body art. We spent some time finalizing the design placement and size, ensuring it was perfect before we even prepped the area.

The tattoo session itself was an experience in endurance. For about four hours, I sat as Kevin meticulously worked on the outline and initial shading of what everyone is calling a ‘huge’ tattoo. If you’ve ever gotten a tattoo, you know there’s a certain level of discomfort involved. During those hours, I found myself drawing parallels to marathon training. It’s a mental game as much as a physical one. Staying present, breathing through the intensity, and focusing on the end goal – a beautiful piece of art – felt very similar to pushing through those tough miles in a long run. This initial session focused on black shading, and I’m scheduled to return in about four weeks for the color work. I’m already looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.
After what I affectionately dubbed my “amazing torture session,” my friend Sarah, who had been my rock throughout the process, and I headed across the street to Tommy Joe’s for some well-deserved beers. It was the perfect way to unwind and celebrate the first step in this tattoo journey.

Our Bethesda evening didn’t stop there. We considered satisfying our sweet tooth with Georgetown Cupcakes – yes, there’s a location right here in Bethesda – but the line was incredibly long. Instead, we opted for adult milkshakes, a delightful recommendation from a friend. And as the night progressed, we found ourselves enjoying Irish Car Bombs, guided by the friendly bartender. It turned into a fun and memorable evening in Bethesda, perfectly capping off the day of getting inked.

For anyone considering getting a tattoo, especially in the Bethesda area, I highly recommend checking out Bethesda Tattoo. My experience was professional, comfortable, and ultimately, I’m thrilled with the progress on my new tattoo. The atmosphere of the studio and the skill of the artists, like Kevin, make it a top choice. And the fact that it’s conveniently located in Bethesda, with great spots nearby to relax and celebrate afterwards, is just a bonus. If you’re looking for a Bethesda tattoo shop, look no further than Bethesda Tattoo – you won’t be disappointed.
