While early attempts to get on Master Chef Junior didn’t pan out due to a perceived lack of “TV personality,” her passion for cooking never waned. It was during her junior year of high school that the idea of attending the CIA solidified her culinary aspirations. Now at CIA, she’s immersed in learning the fundamental principles of cooking, focusing on ratios and the ‘why’ behind culinary techniques, rather than just following recipes. This deeper understanding is shaping her into a well-rounded and thoughtful chef.

Influences play a crucial role in shaping any chef’s style, and for Sadie, her uncle Stephen, a CIA alumnus and executive chef for the US Teamsters Washington DC, was a significant inspiration. Another key influence was Julia Child. Discovering her grandmother’s copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking sparked a “Julie and Julia” style challenge, where Sadie ambitiously worked through every recipe in the book. She also draws inspiration from modern culinary figures on YouTube, like Binging with Babish and Joshua Weisman, blending classic and contemporary culinary perspectives.

Beyond professional influences, Sadie’s connection to food is deeply personal and rooted in her family’s traditions. Memories of her grandfather’s garden, filled with fresh produce, and her family’s raspberry and blueberry bushes, highlight a lifelong appreciation for fresh, homegrown ingredients. This connection to the source of food likely influences her approach to cooking and her future aspirations.
