From Passion to Ink: My Journey as a Tattoo Artist Specializing in Kraken Designs

From a young age, art has been more than just a hobby; it’s been the language through which I understand the world. Growing up in a home that celebrated creativity in all its forms was incredibly formative. My mind was always buzzing with ideas, constantly finding outlets in drawing, crafting, singing, and storytelling. This creative drive has been a lifelong companion.

Like many artists, my fascination with body art started early. I was the kid who was always doodling on myself and friends, captivated by the transformative power of tattoos. Interestingly, I grew up in a fairly traditional environment where tattoos were somewhat of a taboo. It wasn’t until my teenage years that I even knew someone with tattoos. That all changed when I was 16 and accompanied a friend to their first tattoo appointment. In that moment, witnessing the artistry and the permanence of the process, I knew tattooing was my calling.

My formal art education at the Alberta University of the Arts provided me with a strong foundation in drawing, painting, and various artistic mediums. Even while taking time to raise my three sons, including twins, my artistic spirit remained vibrant. I channeled my creativity into custom cake design and baking, even earning a feature on Food Network Canada. This period allowed me to further hone my skills and explore different forms of artistic expression.

However, the magnetic pull of tattooing was undeniable. Despite the demands of motherhood, the dream of becoming a tattoo artist persisted. With the support of my own tattoo artist, valuable mentors, and countless hours of practice, I’m proud to have established myself as a professional tattoo artist. My passion has blossomed into a full-time career, and the satisfaction I get from it is immense. There’s nothing quite like seeing a client’s face light up when they see their vision brought to life in a tattoo, especially when it’s a powerful and intricate piece.

I am versatile and enjoy tattooing in many styles. However, I am particularly drawn to semi-realistic and surreal illustrations, often featuring people and animals, in both color and black and grey. I appreciate beauty in many forms, and that includes darker, more macabre themes. Kraken Tattoos, with their mythological depth and intricate details, perfectly embody this artistic interest. The challenge of capturing the kraken’s immense scale, the dynamic movement of its tentacles, and the creature’s mysterious aura is something I find incredibly rewarding. Whether it’s a colossal kraken battling a ship or a more subtle, stylized representation, these tattoos offer fantastic opportunities for detailed and impactful artwork. I approach every tattoo as a unique challenge and always strive for 100% client satisfaction with the final piece.

Outside of the studio, I cherish time with loved ones, enjoy meeting new people, dancing, exploring the outdoors, listening to music, traveling, reading, laughing, and simply embracing the wonder of life.
