Spontaneous tattoos often lead to the most memorable pieces. There’s an unmatched energy when a tattoo idea sparks, evolves through collaborative art creation and reference gathering, culminating in ink – all in a single day. This dynamic, client-involved approach is truly my preferred way to work.
This particular piece is “Chicken’s cack,” a bold Cock Tattoo for a long-time friend.
Chicken, known for his collection of humorous and edgy tattoos, came in seeking his next piece. Space was becoming a premium on his inked canvas, much like my own! We brainstormed ideas, and noticing the blank space on his lower leg, the concept of a rooster tattoo immediately jumped out. It felt like the perfect fit for his personality and a subject I’d thoroughly enjoy tattooing. He requested a serious and slightly aggressive rooster, a vision I was happy to bring to life.
To ensure anatomical accuracy and capture the essence of a real rooster, we delved into numerous photographs. We studied body structure and the intricate patterns of rooster feathers. Our piercer, Tigger, also contributed, sharing photos of Aurmarca roosters, highlighting their distinct, vibrant color palettes – reds, brownish-yellows, and iridescent green-blacks. These visual references were crucial in shaping the design of this cock tattoo.
This rooster tattoo is envisioned as a large and spirited piece. Currently, it’s about halfway complete. The next stages involve detailing the tail, wing, and adding a background to fully realize the design.
The shop atmosphere is relaxed as we navigate the tail end of the slow season. While next month promises to be packed with appointments, this quieter period provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with friends and colleagues through tattooing. It’s a pleasant transition back into the regular rhythm after the freedom of camping season!
(Note: This rooster tattoo is in progress. The tail, wing, and background are still to be completed.)
